A group with a unifying desire to worship and study Scripture together, gathered in a rented room at Lohff Schumann Memorial Community Center in Holstein, Iowa, on Sept. 26, 2010. That body, inspired by the Holy Spirit, bound together in Christ, and rooted in God’s Word, has met every week since. We will continue to worship at the Community Center until Easter, when we move into our own church home at 117 N. Main Street in Holstein.
Presently we meet each Sunday at 4:30 p.m. for a free Simple Supper which is open to the public, followed by Sunday School and Adult Bible Study at 5 p.m., and Worship with Communion at 6 p.m. Often members and friends linger after worship for fellowship and we invite our visitors to stay for a cup of coffee so we can get to know each other.
During the season of Lent, we are holding weekly Wednesday services at 7 p.m., with Bible Study preceding at 6 p.m. During Holy Week, services will be held April 21-24, and details are listed on our home page.
Since our first gathering, we have held Worship Service as well as Christian education classes for all ages. The Bible Study for adults and Sunday School for children are so enjoyed by participants and we encourage you to join in on the interaction and the inspiration. The Sunday School is so wildly interactive the kids can’t wait to come back! The Adult Bible Study is so wonderfully inspirational it’s a challenge each and every week to wrap it up in time for Worship to start!
Four teams guide the mission and ministry of Faith: Congregation Council, Education Team, Mission Team and Worship Team. Together with Pastor Chris Schroder, all members and friends, these teams work diligently to enhance life at Faith.
We held our first annual meeting in January 2011, and even though we’d only been meeting for about three months, we had so much to decide and to celebrate. At this meeting we voted that a building should be purchased in Holstein so that we could offer worship and programs without the scheduling conflicts of renting community space. An old restaurant known as the Cro’s Nest on U.S. Highway 59, which serves at Holstein’s Main Street, was purchased at auction. Remodeling began immediately with plans for the first worship service to be held on Easter 2011. We are sticking by that goal “no matter what!” and will hold our Easter Sunday service in our new church home, even if we don’t have it completely finished. As excited as we are about realizing that goal, more importantly we know that we can celebrate every day with Him, no matter where, no matter what!
Starting a new congregation has enlivened the faith of all who worship God and study His word here at Faith Holstein. We fervently pray that others will join us and we will together seek the will of God and do what Christ has bid us:
“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
